With a run of bank holidays coming up many of us Brits will be looking to sneak in a short little getaway without munching into our annual leave.

These microbreaks can help you rest and recharge and sometimes even just a ‘daycay’ is the little reset we need to feel ready to head back to work and tackle it head on.

But there’s nothing worse than taking that short little break and realising that the locals aren’t friendly and that the trip didn’t make you happy.

If you’re heading to Ryedale in North Yorkshire you needn’t worry about that though, because Verdant Leisure has named it the happiest and friendliest place in the UK for a microbreak.

The holiday park company compiled the top 10 locations by combining the happiness and friendliness ratings of 371 places across the UK.

Ryedale scored a happiness rating of 8.03 out of 10 and had the highest friendliness rating of 44%.

Just to preface, 44% may not sound that high, but remember that us Brits are fairly grumpy anyway.

Coming in second is Melton in Leicestershire which scored 7.22 for happiness and 37% for friendliness.

Melton has really fun activities like open water swimming, learning to fish and it offers the 1,000-year-old Melton Mowbray market!

Another spot in Leicestershire also secured the third spot with Charnwood scoring 31% for friendliness.

It offers forests, quaint cottages and family farm days out as well as a motor museum.

Rounding out the top five was West Lancashire and Hambleton in North Yorkshire.

North Yorkshire is proving itself to be the happiest of all with Hambleton’s happiness rating at an 8.05 out of 10, although it had the lowest friendliness rating at just 27%.

Hambleton is home to the handsome Kiplin Hall and Gardens and the secluded Mount Grace Priory – why not soak up some culture?

Coming in last at number 10 was North Devon, although the stunning scenery and brilliant beaches may just make up for it’s lower ratings!

After all, how could you say no to dramatic cliffs, wild seas and Croyde Bay?

Stacey Hope, travel expert at Verdant Leisure commented: ‘As the weather improves and people look forward to the extra bank holiday, booking a getaway is the perfect way to make the most of the spring months.

‘Microbreaks have become increasingly popular, with people needing a few days away from home to unwind, without breaking the bank or requesting extra holiday days.’
