The Glazers’ biggest fear which could see Qatari Man Utd bid rejected

Manchester United owners the Glazer family are reportedly ‘conscious’ of the Red Devils’ value soaring, in a clue that could be bad news for the Qatari bidders for the Premier League outfit. The Glazers are expected to make a decision over the coming days on whether to accept a bid by Qatar’s Sheikh Jassim bin Hamad Al-Thani, or a proposal from British billionaire Sir Jim Ratcliffe.

The latter offer, submitted through Ratcliffe’s petrochemicals giant INEOS, includes a proposal for two of the Glazers to remain at Old Trafford. Avram and Joel Glazer could reportedly stay on as minority stakeholders, meaning they continue to invest in the club but do not get to make key decisions.

There is a widespread belief in football that the biggest clubs will see their respective values rise greatly in the coming years. The evolution of telecommunications and virtual reality make that theory ever more pressing.

For instance, Chelsea’s new owners supposedly believe that they have an asset which could see its value skyrocket to around £9.5billion in the future, despite paying £2.5bn for the West London outfit a year ago.

According to the Independent, the Glazers are thought to be ‘conscious’ of United’s value following a similar pattern. That could ultimately be the crucial factor in deciding between Qatar or Ratcliffe.

Sheikh Jassim’s proposal is for 100 per-cent of United and its assets, meaning the Glazers would no longer have any stake in the club. Alternatively, they could accept Ratcliffe’s offer and reap the benefits of any rise in valuation as minority shareholders.

Should they sell to Sheikh Jassim, the Glazers could miss out on huge future earnings. That would be despite each sibling raking in a huge sum of money as part of an estimated £5bn full takeover.

Both bidding parties have supposedly been left uncertain over which path the Glazers will take in the coming days. They could opt to leave United entirely by accepting the Qatari bid, or they could choose to remain at a distance as part of Ratcliffe’s proposal.

There has even been a feeling that the siblings could ditch takeover talks and remain in full control. That, however, would not go down well with the majority of the club’s supporters.

Red Devils head coach Erik ten Hag will also want clarity over the ownership situation. The Dutchman will want to be certain of what budget he will have available to boost his squad this summer.
