The Etihad title showdown – Man City vs Arsenal
3/4 weeks ago, people would’ve had Arsenal as their favourites for the title because of not only the 8-point gap they had but also the way they were dismantling team’s week after week. However, the injury to William Saliba, who’s been sensational in his Premier League debut season for Arsenal, has certainly taken its effect on the results.
Arsenal now sits 5 points clear but crucially Manchester City have 2 games in hand on them. City have started to pick form up at the perfect time as they look for a 5th title in 6 years and a 7th title overall. Not to mention they are also on for the treble, having made it to the FA Cup final and also in the Champions League semi-finals. For Arsenal, who have almost certainly guaranteed a Champions League place for next season, finishing just short of the title would be a massive disappointment for this young team but nowhere near a failure of a season.
In the last 3 weeks, Arsenal have dropped 6/9 points, taking three draws from three games. You can excuse the draw against Liverpool at Anfield because it’s rare that teams go there and actually get a result. The West Ham performance looked as if they would score 6/7 after the first 20 minutes but complacency kicked in and they let the lead slip again. The performance on Friday against Southampton was extremely poor. 3 defensive mistakes costing them a chance to go into the city game 7 points clear. All eyes turn to the Etihad on Wednesday for what surely will turn out to be the decider of who will lift the Premier League title.
