The Elder Scrolls VI Could Be Todd Howard’s Final Game
The Elder Scrolls VI is very far from release, and it could be Bethesda’s Todd Howard’s final game due to how game development now requires more time than ever and how games are now supported for much longer.
Speaking with IGN, Todd Howard commented on the big gap between entries in popular series, saying that they are not impacted by the long wait. He would like to be faster, but speed, apparently, isn’t the goal. In the old days, once a game was out, a developer could think about starting work on its sequel, but nowadays, once a game is out, that is only the beginning, as any given title can be supported for a very long time, which will be the case of both Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI. Taking this into consideration and knowing he isn’t getting any younger, Todd Howard feels that the next entry in The Elder Scrolls series could be the last one he does.
Todd Howard has been with Bethesda since 1994 and worked on The Elder Scrolls II: Daggerfall before serving as project leader and designer for Morrowind, executive producer for Oblivion, and creative director for Skyrim. Having worked on the latest entries in the Fallout series as well, Todd Howard is essentially responsible for almost every big game put out by Bethesda for a long time, and his retirement will undoubtedly have an impact on the developer’s future output, so hopefully, it will still be many years until he finally decides to retire.
Very little is currently known about The Elder Scrolls VI. According to rumors, the game will be set in Hammerfell and will release in 2025 or 2026, although the multiple Starfield delays have inevitably impacted the game’s production schedule, so it’s likely it may take more than three years to see the game. Unsurprisingly due to Microsoft’s acquisition of Bethesda, the game will be an Xbox console exclusive.
The Elder Scrolls VI is currently in development and will release on a yet-to-be-confirmed release date. We will keep you updated on the game as soon as more come in on it, so stay tuned for all the latest news.
