The Elder Scrolls 6 Doesn’t Have Confirmed Platforms Yet, Is 5-Plus Years Away

Bethesda Game Studios often goes many years between releases, and following Starfield’s launch in September, its next game is The Elder Scrolls VI. But “next” doesn’t mean “soon,” as Xbox boss Phil Spencer revealed the game is five or more years away–and he isn’t sure what systems it will release on.

Speaking during his sworn testimony as part of the ongoing FTC and Microsoft trial, Spencer was asked about console exclusivity on Bethesda’s games, including The Elder Scrolls VI. He was unable to provide a concrete answer regarding which platforms it would ship on, however, because he himself does not know yet.

“As I said, with Elder Scrolls VI, it’s so far out–it’s hard to understand what platforms will even be at this point,” Spencer said. “It’s the same team that’s finishing Starfield, which comes out this September. So we’re talking about a game that’s like five-plus years away.”

It’s unlikely we’d see The Elder Scrolls VI release on a PlayStation system, but Spencer’s wording suggests we may not even see the game launch on Xbox Series X|S. Instead, it could potentially come to Microsoft’s next system, which may launch in 2028.

Should it really be five or more years before The Elder Scrolls VI launches, it will have been in some form of development for more than a decade. We recently passed the five-year point since it was first announced with a short concept logo at E3.
