The drink you should always order on a flight is ginger ale – here’s why
BEFORE you put your drink order in with the flight attendant, you may want to think again before opting for the booze.
Experts have found that the best beverage to drink during a flight is a ginger ale – for a number of reasons.
According to Travel + Leisure, ginger ale is the best drink to have while flying as it is less likely to taste dull.
Taste buds change on a plane due to dry air and cabin pressure.
Sweetness and saltiness are affected the most – with a chef revealing he even uses Tabasco sauce on food to try and enhance the taste while flying.
However, ginger ale will taste less sweet in the air, and instead be much sharper, retaining some of its taste.
Ginger ale is also good for a number of medical reasons – it is often drunk when feeling travel sick, as ginger is known to reduce nausea while the fizziness can also help.
Nutritionist Lauren Grosskopf told Travel + Leisure: “Ginger helps ease stomach upset with nervous flyers.”
Ginger also has anti-inflammatory properties, which can reduce swelling.
When it comes to the worst drink to order on a plane? You should give the Bloody Mary a miss.
As it is a salty drink, it will taste much sweeter than you may have wanted.
You should give Diet Coke a miss too, as flight attendants often explain it takes too long to pour with the bubbles as soft drinks foam up more due to the cabin pressure.
Jet, who is a member of the cabin crew, previously explained on her blog: “I literally have to sit and wait for the bubbles to fall before I can continue pouring.
“If all three passengers ask for Diet Coke I’ll often get them started, take another three drink orders, serve those, and then finish the Diet Cokes.”
Alcoholic drinks are also a no-no on flights as they are more likely to dehydrate you further thanks to the cabin pressure.
If you really want the booze, a flight attendant has revealed how to make cocktails on a flight using the free mixers.
It is also claimed that loud noises on flights from the engine makes food taste even blander.
