Netflix has confirmed that a number of valuable props from The Crown have been stolen.

An eye-watering £150,000 worth of items were reportedly taken overnight last Wednesday and a police investigation is underway.

South Yorkshire Police revealed three vehicles containing props used in TV and film were broken into near Doncaster, the Mail Online reports.

The publication adds that 200 objects were snatched, including an expensive replica of a Russian Fabergé Egg purchased by King George V and Queen Mary, jewellery, a grandfather clock, silverware, and a candelabra.

‘The gang managed to gain access to the lorries, break them open and strip them of the lot,’ a source said.

They added to The Sun: ‘Producers have an incredible eye for detail and every item was meticulously chosen. To lose the lot is just heart-breaking.’

A Netflix spokesperson said the incident would not hold up filming as ‘replacements will be found’.

The extravagant hit series is due to return for its fifth instalment at the end of 2022 featuring a new all-star cast as it heads towards coverage of the late 1990s.

Screen veteran Imelda Staunton takes over from Olivia Colman as Queen Elizabeth I and Lesley Manville will portray Princess Margaret, previously played by Helen Bonham Carter.

Elizabeth Debicki moves into the role of Diana, Princess of Wales, previously played by Emma Corrin.

The series will reportedly dramatise her headline-making 1995 Panorama interview with Martin Bashir as well as other key events in her later life.

Writer Peter Morgan has confirmed the drama will then come to an end with series six.

While there has been major upset in the Royal Family recently, the show will not cover the allegations made against Prince Andrew, or Harry and Meghan’s marriage.

The Crown is available to stream on Netflix.
