The Cotswolds: Pam Ayres unveils the village with ‘prettiest high street in Britain’

The Cotswolds is a much loved area of the UK. The popular getaway destination is the home of poet Pam Ayres.

Pam said: “It’s so lovely, it’s like going back in time.”

The train’s journey is a 28-mile round trip through the best of the Cotswolds.

Pam said: “It’s magic, this is the best way to see the Cotswolds.”

The revival of the railway is thanks to volunteers.

And Pam was a fan.

DON’T MISS

The Cotswolds is “breathtakingly beautiful”, but there’s more to do and see than walk through pretty villages or going on a steam train ride.

Pam went to Winchcombe pottery to learn how to make a pot, and it turned out she was quite good at it.

After some crafts, the poet went to Cotswold Farm Park, which celebrates its 50th birthday this year.

The home of famous farmer Adam Henson, the park aims to conserve and preserve rare breeds.

Adam said they are “part of our heritage”.

Pam met Dolly the pig and her little piggies, as well as Strawberry the pregnant cow, two very popular animals at the farm.

It was then time for Pam to go to Broadway Village, a place she fell in love with aged 17 when she first saw it on a bus ride journey down to Wales.

It is a “marvellous place”, filled with independent shops and “the prettiest high street in Britain”.

After getting some chocolates at Hamiltons of Broadway, Pam headed to Broadway Tower.

Climbing up the stairs, she could see 16 counties.

She also met the herd of 20 deer that live in the shadow of the tower.

Pam’s last stop was Sudeley Castle.

The home of Queen Katherine Parr, it has vast, beautiful gardens and combines ruins and a castle.

Queen Katherine is buried here, the only Queen of England to be buried on private land.
