The bikini holiday habit that is really bad for your health

A TRAVEL expert has revealed the gross holiday habit that everyone needs to avoid – even if it may seem harmless.

While swapping outfits may be a common occurrence for many holidaymakers, there’s one item that holidaymakers should never share with their friends or family.

Huffington Post reporter Habiba Katsha explained why people shouldn’t share their swimsuits with each other.

Habiba told the Huffington Post: “Sharing outfits and accessories is a staple of the girl’s holiday experience, however, you may want to rethink this when it comes to sharing swimwear.

“As bikinis trap moisture you could end up with bacterial vaginosis or a yeast infection.

“We all like to share, but when it comes to swimwear – sharing is not caring.”

When it comes to loaning out a swimming costume, your main concern should be hygiene.

This is because some viruses and diseases can be transferred by clothing that touches intimate parts of the body.

Even if you’re not loaning out your bikini, you could still be at risk of a yeast infection, as Dr Lenna Nathan explained during an interview in Live Science,

She said: “A wet bathing suit can put women at risk for having a yeast infection if they sit in it for an extended period of time.”

Wet swimsuits aren’t the only holiday habit Brits should aim to avoid.

Passengers on planes should generally steer clear of removing their shoes and socks.

Podiatrist Ebonie Vincent has also said that being barefoot leaves travellers exposed to bad bacteria.

She told the Washington Post: “You could pick up fungus, not to mention the millions of germs and bacteria that you could transfer to carpets, inside hotel rooms or homes and cars, which serves as a danger to other people.”

Tony Kuna, who used to work as as a member of the cabin crew, explained that it could also cause problems if there is an emergency during a flight.

He wrote on Quora: “During an emergency, all sorts of debris and unpleasant ground surfaces will block your way towards the exit, as well as outside the aircraft.

“If your feet [aren’t] properly covered, you’ll have a hard time making your way to safety.”
