The best way to revise for your mock GSCE exams – Alvaro Rodriguez, Whitgift School
Most students find it hard to the revise, and with the upcoming GSCE mock exams in January, good revision matters more than ever. Therefore, I will give you three ways to revise for your GSCE mocks so that you can get the grade you deserve.
Handwritten Notes
Notes can help you to write down information and key facts on the subject you are revising for, so that you don’t have to look for the exercise books and worksheets that you used over the past year. With all your notes on one page, revision is made much easier. In addition, handwritten notes have been proven to be more useful for revision since taking notes by hand improves your understanding of the subject and your memory. A good example of handwritten notes for revision are flashcards which many students find useful for revision due to the flashcards encouraging active recall.
Visual Representation
Another way to revise is through a visual representation of the material you are trying to learn. For example, through watching a video, you can engage with the material and learn the information and facts you need for your exam. Furthermore, after you have absorbed that information, you can produce a spider diagram or mind map to break down the information.
Routine
An essential part of revision is a solid routine. By producing a timetable, you can organise your time during the holidays for different subjects. For example, you can dedicate 1 hour to Maths and then 1 hour to English with a break in between. Breaks are especially important for revision because your brain requires time to completely absorb the information that you have just revised. This is called consolidation. Furthermore, sleep is necessary for revision because not only can consolidation occur while you sleep, but a good 9 to 10 hours of sleep are needed for growth and a healthy lifestyle.
If you make sure to follow these five steps, you will find revision easier for your GSCE mocks. Even if you find some of the steps not applicable to you, Routine is the most important and necessary for everyone who revises, because everyone needs a healthy timetable that includes time to rest. Good luck on your exams!
