The best UK destinations for a pint have been named – is your local on the list?

Independent pubs and breweries have struggled during the pandemic. Now that their doors have reopened, they are once more a central part of life in every UK city.

A new study by Bionic has analysed data to come up with the best destinations for a craft pint.

Looking at customer reviews, the number of unique beers and the number of top-rates pubs and micro-breweries, they have come up with a list of the best destinations for Britons to get a drink.

Coming top was Newcastle.

With four top-rated breweries and 1,276 pubs, the North East city knows its brews.

There are also a total of 343 unique beers on offer in the city, making it the top spot in the country for a craft pint.

In second place was Manchester, with four top-rated breweries and 1,613 pubs.

There are an incredible 781 unique beers in Manchester, the most of all the cities on the list.

This made Manchester a fantastic destination for craft beer-lovers.

Manchester is also the location of England’s first beer hotel, Brewdog DogHouse Manchester Bar & Rooftop.

Opened this summer by the Scottish brewers, the Manchester hotel has Punk IPA on tap in every room, beer fridges in the showers and guests get a beer when checking in.

In third place was London.

It’s difficult to argue with the 5,800 pubs of the capital.

No other cities had as many pubs.

Sheffield, with 1,875 establishments didn’t even come close, but was the second city with the most pubs.

London also has four top-rated breweries and 552 unique beers.

Fourth best destination for a craft beer was Ipswich.

With two top-rated breweries serving a total of 195 unique beers and 1,148 pubs, Ipswich is a great spot for a pint.

In fifth place was Gloucester with two breweries, 209 unique beers and 831 pubs.

Portsmouth had the most top-rated breweries.

But five breweries were not enough to make it rank higher than number 10 on the list.
