London is one of the world’s great culinary cities, and this week it’s frankly showing off.

Dine Like A Doll with Just Eat
AD FEATURE
Inspired by this summer’s pink trend, Just Eat has unveiled a curated pink takeaway menu, giving the nation a taste of how a doll might dine in real-life.
‘Dine like a doll’ by starting the day with a Pink Latte from LEON or Pancakes, Berries & Cream from The Breakfast Club. Then when lunchtime hits, pair JOE & THE JUICE’s sandwiches with strawberry-filled juices, such as The Power Shake, Hell of a Nerve or Pick Me Up. Alternatively, enjoy LEON’s brand new The Chicken & Bacon BBQ BIG SMOKE with bright pink aioli slaw.
For a pink afternoon pick-me-up, order in the Just Eat exclusive Dream Doll Dozen from Krispy Kreme, an all-pink box featuring the Strawberries & Kreme and Strawberry Iced doughnuts. And finally, end the evening with German Doner Kebab. Fans can enjoy a tasty pink exclusive – the Coco or Kiki Kebab, a peshwari-inspired coconut waffle flat bread, filled with a choice of doner meat and salad.
Food and Drink
Nobu
We have long been hooked on Nobu’s artful cuisine and now there is an even more compelling reason to visit: a pocket-friendly set lunch that serves up four courses of Japanese-Peruvian culinary gems in a chic, serene setting for just £50.
Expect OG menu superstars like jalapeño and yuzu new style sashimi, a delectable tenderloin beef toban yaki that arrives sizzling in a skillet with enoki and shitake mushrooms – or a succulent seafood alternative with salmon and scallops – and a wasabi shrimp and tofu crouton Caesar salad that is so liberally garnished with truffle you can hardly see the shrimp.
Finish with a Whisky Cappuccino of rich coffee brulée layered with cocoa crunch, iced milk and cream and whisky foam. Sensational, chef. Add a sushi platter for £22.50 and you still have an unforgettable feast at one of the world’s finest restaurants for under £75.
Summer Lunch set menu £50pp, 19 Old Park Lane, St James’s.
Wonderland
The culinary whizz-kids of Old Compton Street’s Wonderland take the battle for good vegan food seriously. That’s why they put their vegan options in direct competition with meaty equivalents, and ask visitors to choose the winner for themselves.
During our visit, there was a shocking but legitimate victory for plant-based cooking, with the signature Wonder Burger the best vegan burger we’ve ever tasted. Whisper it, but it may even be the best burger full stop…
Mains from £9.95, 49 Old Compton Street, Soho.
Theatre Royal Drury Lane Regency Afternoon Tea
It’s the oldest theatre site in London, and a stunning masterpiece of Regency interior design. Where better to indulge in an afternoon tea for the ages?
The brand new menu features treats from celebrity baker Lily Vanilli, whose new range of seasonal pies changes throughout the year, with the current fave being stuffed with coronation chicken and caramelised onion chutney.
From £59pp, Catherine Street, Covent Garden.

What’s on
KidZania
Ah, summer in the city. Airplanes touching down full of eager tourists; journalists pacing the streets looking for the next big story; radio hosts keeping the energy up; and the annual summer carnival in full resplendent swing.
The city in question isn’t London, mind you, it’s KidZania, the child-scaled thriving metropolis in Westfield, perfecting their signature blend of ‘edutainment’ (work it out) just in time for the summer holidays.
The city’s Karnival is a particular summer highlight, featuring singing and dancing in four daily parades, mini theatre productions, and lots of incredible mask-making.
Karnival runs until 3 September, Westfield, Ariel Way, Shepherd’s Bush.
Theatre
Grenfell, In the Words of Survivors
It is fitting that a national scandal should be investigated at the National Theatre. Seventy-two people died, 18 of them children, in a fire that this production persuasively claims would not have happened if regulations were as stringent as they used to be.
Gillian Slovo’s verbatim play compiled from interviews of survivors immerses the audience in the lives of 12 Grenfell residents played by an ensemble cast. You leave outraged, even if the evening’s final flourish which corrals the audience into a protest march feels oddly manipulative.
Sport
The Hundred
England Women may not have won the Ashes this summer, but they have achieved much more than a trophy: bringing record-breaking viewing figures to women’s cricket. Catch them in action throughout August, when stars from both teams go straight into cricket’s hottest domestic competition, The Hundred.
Eight women’s teams will battle it out alongside the men’s to be crowned champions, with London fixtures taking place at Lord’s and The Kia Oval. Expect pyros, fireworks, live music acts from BBC Introducing, and some darn good cricket.
London’s best… South Asian Heritage Month events
BEST FOOD: The Tamil Prince
Situated on a tranquil Islington street, this gastropub serves up some seriously intense flavours. A blissful fusion of an Indian restaurant and a British boozer, The Tamil Prince invites its guests to try a variety of finger-licking South Indian delicacies and spicy cocktails.
Our favourites include the Thanjavur chicken curry, Tawa grilled sea bream and their signature drink, a Pinacolassi – a desi twist on a Piña colada.
BEST FILM: The Garden Cinema
Covent Garden’s newest independent cinema, The Garden Cinema, screens repertory seasons and new releases from around the world in a vibrant, art deco setting.
It’s a sublime cinema experience – we saw the critically-acclaimed Joyland by Saim Sadiq, screened as part of the South Asian Heritage Month celebration.
SAHM screenings until 17 August, 39-41 Parker Street, Covent Garden.
BEST ART: A.P. Santhanaraj
For the final stop on your celebration of South Asian Heritage month, head to the Modern & Contemporary Art from South India exhibition by SOAS’s Brunei Gallery and The Noble Sage.
The partnership presents the art of the late A.P. Santhanaraj as well as that of his contemporaries, students and followers to tell the story of artistic development in South India after Independence.
Until 23 September, SOAS, University of London Thornhaugh Street, Bloomsbury.
