The best distilleries in the ‘historical home of whisky’ have been named – ‘pilgrimage’

A holiday in Scotland would not be complete without a stop at a whisky distillery. Snaptrip has teamed up with whisky expert Claire Vokins to name the best distilleries to visit on a trip to Scotland.

“The way Scotch whisky is made, and the laws involved, are now the benchmark for all over the world.

“I would highly recommend people who drink whisky to make the pilgrimage to Scotland!

“Apart from the history, sense of place, beautiful countryside, gorgeous coastline and great people, Scotland is a whisky lover’s theme park.”

Claire rounded up the best distilleries Britons can go and visit.

DON’T MISS

Glenturret is the oldest distillery, set in the Perthshire countryside.

First recorded in 1763, it was formerly known as the Thurot Distillery.

The most remote distillery in Scotland is Shetland Reel.

Taking two ferry rides to reach, the distillery is on the Isle of Unst, via the island of Yell.

It’s actually closer to Norway than to Scotland.

The oldest distillery on the Isle of Skye is Talisker.

Set on the shores of Loch Harport and the site offers incredible views of the Cullins.

Edradour Distillery in Pitlochry is the smallest traditional distillery in Scotland.

Single malt whisky has been made at the farm distillery since 1825.

Claire said: “Ultimately whisky is a drink for everyone, everywhere; and there is a whisky to suit each of us, we just need to explore to find it.”
