The beautiful French town that looks like a fairytale with Venice-style canals

A FRENCH holiday town has been compared to a scene from a movie and described as “the most beautiful place” by people online.

France is home to some of the most famous romantic locations in the world, but there are some that are less well-known.

One of those places is Annecy, an alpine town in the south-east of the country that looks like it could be Venice so much so it’s known as the Venice of the Alps.

It has canals, and quaint cobbled streets and is overlooked by a medieval chateau which was once home to the Counts of Geneva.

Lake Annecy feeds into the canals which run through its famous old town, lined with pastel-coloured houses.

One person who was very impressed with the town was Tiktoker Neil James (@neil.james) who shared footage from his visit online.

In a video he put on his Tiktok, Neil showed the sights of the town and why it is so popular with those who go every year.

Close to a million people have seen his video already, with lots of people amazed by what they had seen.

One wrote: “This is my summer dream.”

Another said: “I would highly recommend going even in October! I love it. It was like I was a scene in a movie.”

A third simply added: “It’s the most beautiful place.”

As well as its picturesque scenery, Annecy is well known for its culinary exports as well.

One of which is raclette, which consists of a round, semi-hard cheese of the same name melted in front of an open fire.

According to Culture Trip, it is traditionally enjoyed “with potatoes, dried meats, gherkins and pickled onions.

They said: “You can find raclette all over Annecy, and never will you feel as toasty as when you are sitting in front of a fireplace in a restaurant looking onto a canal and savouring every bite of it.”

Another famous site in the town is the Pont des Amours (Lovers’ Bridge) – an ornate iron bridge by the lake, which joins the Jardins de l’Europe and Pâquier Esplanade, two open gardens on the shores of the lake.

Culture Trip added: “Legend has it that if two lovers kiss on the bridge, they will stay together forever – the padlocks that adorn the bridge certainly suggest that visitors believe this.”

Annecy isn’t the only French destination that has been compared to places elsewhere in the world.

In recent years, the beaches and landscapes of Île Callot have been compared to Tahiti by both travel experts and holidaymakers.

In a review on TripAdvisor, one holidaymaker wrote: “Great white sand just like in Tahiti.”

Meanwhile, Brittany Ferries told Sun Online Travel: “Brittany’s Île Callot may look like a Polynesian paradise but is only a short ferry trip across the Channel.”

If you fancy elsewhere in Europe, an island in Greece is said to be better than Mykonos.

And in the UK, there is a British island that looks just like the Caribbean.
