The Beatles, ‘Saved by the Bell’ and Christmas programming commences: Here’s what’s streaming for Canadians this week

With so many different streaming platforms and cable offerings to navigate, choosing what to watch has never been harder. To make things easier, here are our best tune-in tips for the week ahead.

MONDAY NOV. 22

Dancing With the Stars

It’s hard to believe that “Dancing With the Stars” will wrap up its 30th season tonight. What won’t be as hard to believe is YouTube personality JoJo Siwa and pro Jenna Johnson Chmerkovskiy making history as the first same-sex couple to win the mirror ball trophy (the most likely scenario). That said, is it really fair considering JoJo’s dancing background? How are “The Talk” co-host Amanda Kloots, Peleton instructor Cody Rigsby and former NBA shooting guard Iman Shumpert expected to compete against that kind of experience? Guess anything can still happen.

WEDNESDAY NOV. 24

Hawkeye

This holiday season, the best gifts come with a bow. ???? Watch the new trailer for Marvel Studios’ “Hawkeye,” and start streaming the Original Series November 24 on Disney+: https://bit.ly/2XyBSIW

Marvel’s Hawkeye gets the Disney Plus miniseries treatment and the two-episode premiere will see Clint Barton (played by Jeremy Renner) team up with Kate Bishop (Hailee Steinfeld). The story will mainly consist of the superhero passing down the bow and arrow to a new protégé.

Disney Plus

Bruised

Halle Berry’s directorial debut premiered at last year’s Toronto International Film Festival where it was one of the hardest tickets to get. Netflix paid a pretty penny to procure the worldwide rights to the film. Berry plays a washed-up MMA fighter trying to get her career back on track to regain custody of her son. The role was originally written for Blake Lively (“Gossip Girl”), who reportedly declined, allowing Berry to change the script and take over the lead.

Netflix

True Story

How far will you go to protect your own? Kevin Hart and Wesley Snipes star in True Story, the gripping journey of two brothers entangled in a world of celebrity, crime, and lies. Watch True Story, a limited series, November 24, only on Netflix.

Kevin Hart shows off his serious side while still playing a comedian. His character the Kid seems to be on the fast track to success until his older brother, Carlton (Wesley Snipes) shows up. Things quickly escalate into a matter of life and death.

Netflix

Dog Years

THURSDAY NOV. 25

The Beatles: Get Back

The official trailer for #TheBeatlesGetBack is here! The Disney+ original docuseries, directed by Peter Jackson, will be arriving on Disney+ just in time for the Thanksgiving holiday. Made entirely from never-before-seen, restored footage, it provides the most intimate and honest glimpse into the creative process and relationship between John, Paul, George, and Ringo ever filmed. Be sure to check them both out, and don’t forget to watch “The Beatles: Get Back” when it rolls out over three days, November 25, 26, and 27, 2021, exclusively on Disney+.

Directed by three-time Oscar-winning filmmaker Peter Jackson, this three-part documentary series takes audiences back in time to one of the most pivotal periods in music history for the Beatles. In the trailer for the series, the band rehearses Paul McCartney’s new “I’ve Got a Feeling” track as he teaches the rest of the group the song. The wealth of footage Jackson received access to took three years to restore and edit, and was curated from tapes made in 1969. Easily the top pick of the week.

Disney Plus

A Saturday Night Live Thanksgiving

While we have already tasted our turkey in Canada, our friends south of the border are just getting started and “SNL” is the perfect appetizer. This special will be a compilation of the best Thanksgiving-themed sketches from over the years. Expect to hear a lot of Adam Sandler’s “Thanksgiving Song.”

FRIDAY NOV. 26

’Twas the Fight Before Christmas

For Jeremy Morris, loving Christmas is more than good cheer. It’s a court battle. Watch the twisted but true story of a neighborhood’s war against “Mr. Christmas.” Streaming November 26 on Apple TV+ https://apple.co/_TwasTheFight

Let the Christmas movies begin. This unique holiday flick tells the story of a North Idaho street turned upside down by one man’s obsession with Christmas lights. Jeremy Morris doesn’t just want a few bulbs on his roof; he wants a five-day light show much to the chagrin of his neighbours. The result is a court battle involving religious and personal rights. Great concept and fascinating film.

Apple TV Plus

A Saturday Night Live Christmas

Another “SNL” holiday special! This one will be just like the Thanksgiving episode. Just swap out the “Thanksgiving Song” for Adam Sandler’s “Chanukah Song.”

Global & StackTV, 9:30 p.m.

School of Chocolate

A reality show about the different things you can do with chocolate? Count us in. Hosted by Insta-famous French pastry chef Amaury Guichon, it features eight chefs from around the world being challenged to create showpieces made entirely out of chocolate. While it’s fun to see what is made, the fact that there are no eliminations and that the worst chefs in each episode are simply given extra time with Guichon is kind of lame. The show is still worth a look.

Netflix

Harry Potter Film Collection

In celebration of the 20th anniversary of the “Harry Potter” films, the entire collection of Daniel Radcliffe movies will be available to stream. If you were a fan of the books and never got a chance to catch the big screen adaptations, now’s your chance. Also, keep an eye out for the upcoming competition series called “Harry Potter: Hogwarts Tournament of Houses,” which will be hosted by Academy Award winner Helen Mirren.
