Playing dual roles in “The Iron Heart,” an introvert and an extrovert but both villains, is what appeals to veteran actor Albert Martinez.

Martinez last played a screen baddie as Tomas Tuazon in “FPJ’s Ang Probinsyano.” In “The Iron Heart,” he plays the philanthropist Priam and the syndicate leader as Engineer.

“Tomas Tuazon  is an alpha male. He’s an extrovert, noisy and has greed for power and flamboyant. He’s the type who wears expensive suit, expensive watches and drives nice cars. He lives in a huge mansion. Engineer is totally different.  If Tomas is an alpha,  Engineer is sigma. He’s very quiet to the point of being reclusive.  He just wants his intention to be run properly,” Martinez said during our set visit to the series’ location in Cebu.

As Engineer, he runs a “cult” called Tatsulok. His son was killed and he was determined in knowing who killed his son.

Martinez admits that like Engineer, he is also the type who shuns fanfare in his life.

“I am not totally recluse but I am very private like Engineer,” he declared.

But that’s the closest he could be to his character.  He feels that they’re of disparate character because of Engineer’s desire to seek revenge.

“I don’t believe in revenge,” he declared.

“I believe that all the things that happen around us has a reason.  That’s how I look at it, unless talagang intentional. Ganoon ako, eh (that’s how I am).  If you hurt me, I just charge it to life.  Maybe you have a reason why you did it. Maybe it’s unintentional. If it’s intentional, kargo mo ‘yun (that’s your burden),” he said.

“The Iron Heart” airs 8:45 p.m. on A2Z, Kapamilya Channel, TV5, Kapamilya Online Live on Facebook and YouTube, Jeepney TV and TFC IPTV.  /ra
