FORGET strawberry picking – these days, British families are just as likely to pay money to visit a field of flowers.
Fuelled by the need for fresh selfies for social media, sunflower fields have become the hot UK attraction of the moment – joining lavender fields as the perfect Instagram backdrop.

While lavender and sunflowers have been grown in the UK for years, lavender in particular attracted a surge of interest trend during the pandemic, when people were only able to visit secluded places instead of typical tourist attractions.
The middle of summer is the best time to see sunflowers in bloom, from late July to August.
As a result, Instagram and TikTok is awash with pictures of people smiling blissfully as they pose among the yellow blooms.
People take the photo opportunity so seriously, that there are even tips for the best clothes to wear in a sunflower field (navy, orange and brown apparently… avoid green).
Several locations can be found across England and Wales, with the sites increasingly being used for wedding and engagement photos.
To help others enjoy get involved, they also listed some of their favourite spots to find the flowers.

Garson Farm, Surrey
Garson Farm in Esher, Surrey, has sunflower and dahlia fields for the photo opp, as well as PYO fruit and vegetables.
Visitors have to buy a farm pass to visit, which costs £5 for an adult and £2 for a child.
Rhossili Bay, Wales
Eight acres of sunflowers are grown at Gower fresh Christmas Trees in Rhossili.
They’ve installed sunflower arches and swings for the perfect Instagram moment, and you can also pick some flowers to take home.
Entry to the fields costs from £3pp.
Hitchin Lavender, Hertfordshire
Hitchin Lavender, which made its name thanks to the purple blooms, also have plenty of sunflowers. who are offering both types of flower for their visitors.
The Hertfordshire fields are also home to a lavender museum, as well as a wild flower meadow. Entry to the fields costs £7 when bought in advance online.

Country Living have recommended that tourists visit the fields now to avoid disappointment.
They said: “Sunflowers flourish from mid-summer to early autumn, so you’re likely to start seeing them in July.
“Their peak bloom time only lasts around two or three weeks, so it’s best to visit sunflower fields early in the season for the best chance to see them.
“After this, some of them may begin to lose their petals.”
One person who took part in the trend was travel Tiktok account Travel Explore World (@travel_explore_world).
They shared a video of themselves exploring one of the fields in the UK, which one commenter described as “heaven on Earth”.
Those planning a trip to visit Hitchin’s famous fields shoudl also pay a visit to the town, which has been compared to a French holiday destination in recent years.
Dubbed “Little Provence” by visitors, the town is also home to a thriving food scene.
Meanwhile, this UK town has been compared to a dreamy Italian village.
