The 1975 have reportedly cancelled their shows in Indonesia and Taiwan – just a day after they were banned from Malaysia for protesting anti-LGBT laws.
While performing at the Good Vibes Festival, frontman Matty Healy criticised the country’s anti-LGBTQ laws before kissing bandmate Ross MacDonald.
In Malaysia, being homosexual is punishable by up to 20 years in prison. The 1975’s set was cut short after the on-stage protest on Friday night.
It prompted the Malaysian authorities to end the Good Vibes Festival.
We The Fest in Indonesia released a statement from the band on Sunday morning. It said: “The 1975 regret to announce that their forthcoming shows in Jakarta and Taipei will no longer be going ahead as planned.
“The band will never take the decision to cancel a show lightly and had eagerly been looking forward to playing for fans in Jakarta and Taipei but unfortunately, due to the current circumstances, it is impossible to proceed with the scheduled shows.
“Thank you for your understanding and continued support.”
The band did not elaborate further on the cancellation.
