Thailand hotel launches rooms for 2p – here is how to book it

A HOTEL in Thailand is letting tourists book rooms for just 2p per night as it tries to encourage more visitors to stay.

The Harmonize hotel in Chiang Mai usually costs between 500 to 1,000 baht (£11 to £23) for a night, but guests are now being offered heavily discounted rates to stay in any of its 77 rooms.

Each room has a private bathroom, a TV, WiFi, air conditioning and a kettle, while the hotel itself has a swimming pool, a shared lounge and a garden.

Visitors will also receive a 300 baht (£7) voucher to use in the accommodation’s restaurant, according to local reports.

With the country struggling to attract tourists at the rate it did before the pandemic, the aim is to restore visitor numbers to what they once were.

It is hoped that discounts like the one at the Harmonize will bring hotel occupancy in the region up from 30 per cent to 50 before the end of the holiday season this year.

To get the discounted rate, bookings have to be made through the Robinhood mobile app before August 7, howe.

All stays must be booked before October 31 or the code will not apply.

When checking out, guests have to add the discount code CNX1 before paying using the SCB mobile banking app.

The code can only be used a maximum 200 times per day and only tourists are eligible.

Phunut Thanalaopanich, the owner of the Harmonize Hotel told the Times he had received “a lot of calls” about the reduced rate.

He said that bookings have increased dramatically as well and hopes that it will help to boost struggling tourism numbers.

Thailand made it easier for tourists to visit last month by scrapping its “Thailand pass” for which proof of a vaccination and a suitable insurance policy were required.

Now holidaymakers only need to provide proof of either vaccination or a negative Covid-19 test taken within 72 hours of arrival.

Other countries are offering cheap hotels as well this summer, including Greece.
