During the cost of living crisis, supermarket loyalty saving schemes have become increasingly popular.

From Sainsbury’s’ revamp of the Nectar card to Co-op’s new loyalty card offering discounts, many shoppers have been turning to membership cards to save money.

One of the most popular loyalty programmes is the Tesco Clubcard, and the scheme is set to go through some serious changes soon.

From June 14, 2023, the Tesco Clubcard voucher scheme will see the value of Clubcard points reduced from triple to double when being redeemed with a reward partner (like Pizza Express and Zizzi).

The dedicated Clubcard app will also be closed down in favour of a more comprehensive app.

Tesco has said: ‘We’re making this change to the scheme to make sure we can continue to provide a wide range of rewards that meet the needs of all our Tesco Clubcard members while keeping prices low for everyone.’

But is it possible to extend the existing value of your Clubcard points?

Here is what you need to know.

How to extend and triple your Clubcard points

Money Saving Expert Martin Lewis recently shared some top tips on managing the upcoming change, and all that is required are three easy steps.

Check your vouchers

While presenting Good Morning Britain, the expert told viewers to: ‘Go online and check, or on the app, and check whether you have any of these vouchers; it will tell you if you have any unused vouchers.

‘It’s worth noting that currently, you can trade in a £5 voucher for three times the value – £15 worth – on things like Pizza Express or Legoland.

‘From June 14, they’re going to be double, but if you trade them in now, it’s valid for a year.’

Spend a little of your voucher

How you spend your voucher is a means of making it go further and help you get the most out of Tesco’s loyalty scheme.

your instinct may be to spend it all at once, but you’re best off spending a little of it at a time.

As Lewis explains: ‘Say, you’ve got a £10 voucher, you go online, your log in, you spend say 50p of your £10, so you’ve now got £1.50 in restaurant vouchers – because 50p becomes £1.50.’

Have the voucher reissued

tying into how you spend your voucher, once you’ve spent a little of the voucher, it should be re-issued – which in turn will extend the date.

Mr Lewis concluded: ‘For the rest of the £9.50, they re-issue it, and it lasts another two years.

‘So, if you spend just a little bit of the voucher, the rest of it is re-issued and it lasts another two years.’

Every little helps – Thanks, Martin!
