Tennis star confronts opponent for ‘screaming like a b***h’ as umpire intervenes

Marton Fucsovics slammed his opponent at the Lyon Open as he claimed that Sebastian Baez was “screaming like a b***h”. The world No 80 claimed that the Argentine was one of many 20-something-year-old players who didn’t play fair. And the chair umpire was forced to intervene as Fucsovics went on an X-rated rant before losing the match.

Tensions boiled over in Lyon as Fucsovics found himself trailing by a set and a break to sixth seed Baez. In a frosty changeover, the Hungarian approached the world No 44 after going down a break and challenged him over his behaviour.

“How old are you? 12 years old” Fuscovics asked him, as Baez simply responded: “No, 22.” The 31-year-old clearly wasn’t happy with his opponent as he told him: “You’re acting like a 12-year-old.”

And he continued his rant as he sat at his bench, launching a tirade at the younger players. “These f*****g young 20-year-old guys,” he continued. “Not that he is the only one, playing so unfair.”

Turning his attention back to Baez, the world No 80 added: “‘Vamos’ for every point I miss. Screaming like a b***h.” And the umpire was forced to intervene as Fucsovics started swearing, telling him: “It’s ok you talk with me but I don’t want this kind of language.

“I understand that you are frustrated and that you don’t like it but I don’t want these words. I’m happy to talk with you about it.” Fucsovics then brought Cameron Norrie into the conversation, claiming the Brit did the same in Rome.

“It was the same last week, I don’t know who, against Norrie. They are allowed to do this. I know, but this is too much,” he responded. But the umpire continued his plea, asking Fucsocivs not to use “those words”.

The 31-year-old seemed to benefit from venting his frustrations though, as he went on to break back and drew level at 4-4. Both men then broke each other in the following two games, with Fucsovics saving two match points to keep himself alive.

But he went down 6-4 7-6(5) after the set went into a tiebreak, and the two men could be seen exchanging words once again at the net. Fucsovics’ complaints about Baez and Norrie come after Novak Djokovic also raised issues with the Brit during their Italian Open match.

The world No 3 won a feisty round-of-16 clash against Norrie 6-3 6-4 after the 27-year-old caught Djokovic’s legs with the ball after going in for a smash in the second set. Quizzed about whether or not it was intentional, Djokovic instead took issue with some of the Brit’s other antics from the match – including shouting come on.

“From the very beginning, I don’t know, he was doing all the things that were allowed,” the Serb explained. “He’s allowed to take a medical timeout. He’s allowed to hit a player. He’s allowed to say C’mon in the face more or less every single point from basically first game.

“Those are the things that we players know in the locker room it’s not fair play, it’s not how we treat each other. But, again, it’s allowed, so…”
