Ten Hag ‘willing to bring Greenwood back into Man Utd fold’ with decision close

Manchester United boss Erik ten Hag is reportedly willing to reintegrate Mason Greenwood into his squad. The Dutchman is claimed to be happy for the striker to play for the club again but a final decision will be made by the Red Devils hierarchy.

Greenwood had charges of attempted rape, assault and controlling and coercive behaviour dropped in February. The 21-year-old hasn’t played for United since January of last year.

An internal investigation at United started in the same month after a series of allegations were made against the player. Discussions have continued to be held behind closed doors as to whether Greenwood should play for United again.

There has also been reported interest from Italy ahead of a potential loan move next season. However, latest reports claim there is a chance Greenwood could pull on a United jersey again.

The Sun claims Ten Hag is willing for Greenwood to be a part of his squad. But United owners, the Glazers, are set to make the final call on whether that can happen.

A decision could be made within the next week following the conclusion of the investigation. The report says the majority of the United first-team squad would welcome Greenwood back into the fold.

Greenwood is claimed to be ‘delighted’ that both Ten Hag and his team-mates would not be against his return. However, executives and sponsors are concerned about the effect it could cause.

United’s women’s team would also be against Greenwood playing for the club again. Natalie Burrell, the founder of United’s Women’s Supporters Club, said earlier this year that the Old Trafford side can make a statement by getting rid of Greenwood.

Burrell told The Athletic: “I don’t think he should play again for Manchester United. It’s one of the biggest clubs in the world.

“They need to make a statement and letting him back would be the worst thing they could do. It would set our club back in terms of what we’re trying to do with our women’s team and campaigns like Her Game Too which are trying to encourage women to play and watch football.”

Juventus, AC Milan and Inter Milan are three of the clubs linked with a potential loan move for Greenwood. He still has two years remaining on his United deal but could head out on loan with the option to buy if the decision is made by the Glazers that he will not play for them again.
