Newman found himself in close quarters with the Brownlow Medal winner during a boundary throw-in, when he threw an elbow that caught Neale on the chin.
Brisbane players were left livid at the incident and could be overheard on a nearby umpire’s mic yelling “that’s a dog shot” as they remonstrated with the Carlton defender.
Neale was able to run out the remainder of the contest, a fact that may work in Newman’s favour when the AFL’s MRO assesses the incident.
Brisbane split the contest apart in the third quarter, kicking five goals to two behinds to put the result beyond doubt.

Off-season recruit Josh Dunkley was outstanding for Brisbane with 33 disposals, 13 tackles and six clearances, while Charlie Cameron and Zac Bailey kicked four goals apiece.
Carlton was led by Adam Cerra, who also had 33 disposals. The Blues’ twin towers, Charlie Curnow and Harry McKay were held to just a goal apiece.
Brisbane will head back home to host Essendon at the Gabba in round nine, while Carlton will face the Western Bulldogs.
