Technical glitch mars UGC-NET exam; Candidates to get another chance – Times of India

New Delhi: Technical glitches marred the first day of the University Grants Commission-National Eligibility Test (UGC-NET) on Saturday as multiple centres from Odisha, Bihar, Uttar Pradesh, Telangana and Andhra Pradesh reported server problems. While in some centres candidates couldn’t take the exam, in others aspirants lost time due to server issues as they kept getting logged off. The National Testing Agency (NTA) later in the day stated that all candidates from those centres where technical glitches were reported will get another chance to take the test. The agency is investigating the extent of the technical problems faced in the exam.

From early morning candidates took to social media and also called different centres of the TOI informing about their ordeal.

In Odisha not only the exams started late by almost two hours due to server issues, but candidates complained of repeated logging off during the test.
It was chaos at the CV Raman Global University in Bhubaneswar where around 400 students took the test. “While the online test was scheduled to begin at 9 am and end at 12 noon, it started two hours late. It was frustrating,” said an examinee

“The invigilator told us that there was technical issue, for which questions were not opening. It was server error. They told us it was an all-India problem,” said an examinee of social medicine and community health.

In Bihar too candidates complained of getting less than 50% of the stipulated time to compete the test due to technical issue.

When the examination started, the online question paper was frequently logging out. Each log in was taking another five to 10 minutes, said a girl student of archaeology.

While the examination started two hours late in Raipur as well, in Visakhapatnam it was late by 15 minutes. Similar glitches were reported Allahabad and Noida.

“The @ugc_india NET/JRF examination that was scheduled for today did not happen due to some server issue of the @DG_NTA. Students kept on waiting for 3 hours at JSS Institute sec 62 Noida and then left. When will it be rescheduled? @dpradhanbjp @HRDMinistry,” Tweeted a candidate.

Another candidate at 12 noon Tweeted, “NTA has been a disaster! NET exam was supposed to start at 9 am. My reporting time was at 7:20 and the centre is almost 40 kms from my house. I am waiting since 3 hours, and still no information from the centre. What kind of arrangement is this? #NTA #ugcnet2022.”

According to Vineet Joshi, director general, NTA, “Candidates in all those centres where technical glitches were reported will be given another chance. Right now we are compiling the data from various centres. NTA will issue a notification on the same soon.”

According to sources in the NTA the technical issues cropped up as it added some new features ahead of the exam. “As per security protocol we have started a policy of adding some features every time. Hence in some places technical issues were reported in the morning. There were some server issues as well but those were mostly from remote areas.”

Earlier on July 8, a day before the exams, NTA announced the postponement of two papers of the UGC-NET December 2021 and June 2022 (merged cycles). The agency postponed the examination for Telugu and Marathi of the merged cycle of UGC-NET December 2021 and June 2022.

“The Government of Andhra Pradesh and Telangana have their own examinations scheduled on that day. Thus due to Administrative / Logistics reasons the examinations in the said subjects as mentioned below are being postponed until further notice,” NTA stated in its official notification.
