Taylor Swift will not play the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show
Taylor Swift will not play the Super Bowl halftime show in 2023, according to a report from TMZ.
Thanks to a surprise announcement from the National Football League (NFL), Taylor Swift fans around the world speculated on Friday that the songstress may play the 2023 Super Bowl halftime show.
The NFL confirmed at midnight last night that the organization has acquired a new major sponsor: Apple Music. (The NFL’s former sponsor, Pepsi, pulled out of their partnership in May.)
Here’s why that’s significant, according to Swifties: Taylor Swift has an upcoming album entitled “Midnights,” set for release on Oct. 21.
In the lead-up to the album, Swift has offered a number of surprise releases to her fans: a set of vinyl records which together form a functional clock, for instance, as well as a series of TikTok videos posted at midnight to tease individual track names.
While Apple’s tweet about the Super Bowl doesn’t name an artist, fans on TikTok believe the NFL’s midnight Apple Music announcement could be a sign of Swift’s involvement with the halftime show.
Swift is no stranger to surprise announcements. Just this month, a cryptic tweet from the Toronto International Film Festival launched Toronto Swifties into a frenzy. Days later she appeared at the festival to screen her short film “All Too Well.”
Swift has not toured since her Reputation Stadium Tour, which played Toronto in 2018. Fans have speculated that the singer intends to tour “Midnights,” as well as the other albums since “Reputation” — “Lover,” “Folklore,” “Evermore,” plus the re-recordings of “Fearless” and “Red” — next year.
TMZ has reported Swift will not play the halftime show. There has not yet been an announcement about who will.
