Cowboys superstar Jason Taumalolo has again broken his hand and faces another stint on the sidelines.
Tauamolo suffered a hand fracture for the third time this season during his side’s loss to the Titans on Sunday. He suffered the break in the 30th minute yet played on, spending the entire 80 minutes on the field.
He will miss Saturday’s clash against Wests Tigers and likely further matches.
Taumalolo started the season by breaking his right hand at training, then broke his left hand a month later in similar circumstances.
The Cowboys said that the latest fracture was in his left hand; a new injury, rather than the old break being reopened. He will be reassessed for a possible comeback in Round 23.
Taumalolo’s season has been controversial as well as unlucky. Cowboys coach Todd Payten is again trying to fashion him into an edge back-rower, despite Taumalolo being one of the most damaging middle forwards in rugby league history. His involvement and yardage have been severely depleted when he has played on an edge rather than in the middle.
“I’m going to see it out the next few weeks,” Payten said after Sunday’s loss of Taumalolo’s move to the left edge, before his injury came to light.
