Tamim Iqbal’s retirement U-turn: Ravichandran Ashwin’s reaction breaks internet

Bangladesh batter Tamim Iqbal shocked the world twice on Thursday and Friday first by announcing his sudden retirement and then taking a U-turn. Tamim Iqbal was emotional while announcing his retirement on Thursday after which he reportedly met Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina. To everyone’s surprise, Tamim Iqbal decided to return to playing for Bangladesh. The reversal drew reactions on social media with Team India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin and IPL team Rajasthan Royals also reacting to the same.

The observers have pointed out that the Prime Minister might have convinced the Bangladesh star to reconsider his retirement. The decision was particularly shocking as it was coming when Bangladesh is preparing for the ICC World Cup 2023 and the Asia Cup 2023.

Rajasthan Royal’s “fastest” jibe on Tamim Iqbal

Rajasthan Royals was quick to take a dig at the shocking U-turn of Tamim Iqbal and posted a picture showcasing the “fastest things in 2023.”

The picture included MS Dhoni’s sharp stumping in IPL, Yashasvi Jaiswal’s fastest half-century, Mark Wood celebrating wickets in Ashes 2023, and a photo of Tamim Iqbal. The users of social media quickly understood what the franchise was hinting at.

Team India spinner Ravichandran Ashwin also reacted to the whole saga and left the internet in splits with just a one-word post.

The announcement of the withdrawal of Tamim Iqbal’s retirement was made by Bangladesh Cricket Board (BCB) director Jalal Yunus who told it to news agency AFP on Friday. Yunus said Tamim had a change of heart after meeting with Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina.

“Tamim Iqbal has withdrawn his retirement decision,” Yunus said.

“However he will take a six-week rest to regain fitness. He has been under physical and mental pressure in the past six months, which affected his performance,” the BCB director said.
