TalkTalk issues warning over disastrous call that empties your bank in minutes
TALKTALK has warned its customers over a scam where tech users can unknowingly downloads malware onto their devices.
The service provider urged people to install cybersecurity software on all devices inside the home, to ensure everybody is protected when using the internet.
“While we’re all getting stuff done and enjoying ourselves online, we also need to keep our computers, our data and our families safe,” TalkTalk writes on its website.
“Often scammers use sites such as TeamViewer.com to download harmful software onto your devices.”
TeamViewer is a remote access software which allows the maintenance of computers and other devices by experts from afar.
But scammers can persuade people into downloading it to gain control over their devices, via the phone or email.
They may pose as cyber experts looking to help with your device, or even as a worker from a well-known business.
If you follow through with downloading the software, fraudsters can gain all kinds of information if they’re granted access to your devices.
This includes emails, passwords, addresses and even banking details.
TalkTalk has encouraged customers to install its in-house cybersecurity software called TalkTalk Homesafe.

It can also be used for blocking inappropriate content for kids.
“Every TalkTalk broadband customer gets our HomeSafe web filter included for their home Wi-Fi, protecting any device that’s connected,” the provider says.
Customers can simply activate it and choose their settings in the My Account section of the website.
