‘Talking crazy’: How Cowboys-Giants got into brief skirmish after game

Things got chippy between the Cowboys and Giants following Dallas’ 23-16 win on “Monday Night Football.”

As members of both teams gathered to shake hands after the Giants dropped their first game of the season, a scuffle briefly broke out.

The Giants’ Jihad Ward and DeMarcus Lawrence of the Cowboys were said to be taking on “peacemaker” roles “at opposite ends of the scrum,” according to The Athletic’s Dan Duggan, who noted that Ward grabbed the helmet of Dallas tight end Peyton Hendershot. The Giants defensive end claimed the Cowboys rookie “was talking ‘crazy’” postgame.

The Cowboys, who improved to 2-1 on the season with backup quarterback Cooper Rush at the helm, will see the Giants again in November when they host their division rival for a Thanksgiving Day matchup in Dallas.

The Giants will now have to pick up the pieces after a rough outing, which saw quarterback Daniel Jones get sacked five times.

“We’ve got to have 8’s back,” Giants center Jon Feliciano said postgame. “He went out there and played his balls off. Everything he did. … We’ve just got to have his back.’’

Elsewhere on the offense, wide receiver Sterling Shepard suffered what is believed to be a season-ending knee injury.

The Giants will host the Bears on Sunday afternoon at MetLife Stadium before traveling to London to face Aaron Rodgers and the Packers.
