Susanna Reid issues health update after admitting to ‘ignoring’ breast screening
Susanna discussed the Duchess of York’s shock cancer diagnosis, making her realise she had “ignored” her own screening invite.
Following the discussion on air Susanna took to her Instagram, which boasts over 634,000 followers, to confirm she has finally booked the appointment.
The GMB star made a very relatable health confession during Monday’s show whilst discussing Sarah Ferguson, 63.
The ITV anchor revealed that she had previously ignored her mammogram screening invitation due to the change in the way appointments are sent out – which occurred in September last year.
Susanna sent her best wishes to the Duchess of York on the show, saying: “We want to send our best wishes to the Duchess of York, Sarah Ferguson, because she has revealed – this has come as quite a shock – that she’s undergone surgery because of breast cancer.
“She’s now out of surgery, but that’s remarkably fast, isn’t it? Two weeks ago she had the mammogram, she said she was reluctant to go, it’s been very hot weather and it was a bit of an inconvenience, her sister said, ‘You have to go!’.”
On Sunday, a spokesperson for the royal family confirmed the diagnosis, revealing that she has since been treated at hospital and had undergone an operation. It is understood the mother of two is now resting at home.
Sarah was told her prognosis was “good” after her symptoms had been spotted early during a routine mammogram screening. Her treatment took place at the King Edward VII hospital.
A spokesperson for the philanthropist said she had the “best” medical team and wanted to show “immense gratitude” to those who helped her identify her cancer.
They added: “She is also hugely thankful to the staff involved in the mammogram which identified her illness, which was otherwise symptom-free, and believes her experience underlines the importance of regular screening.”
“I think the reason that she’s open about this is she wants this to be a wake-up call to people.”
“I hadn’t realised, that there was a change in policy and screening, around seven months ago.”
