Suns get major relief as superstar re-signs

Gold Coast has re-signed star midfielder Touk Miller to a multi-year deal, making for some positive news after losing Hugh Greenwood due to a botched draft move.

Miller put pen to paper on a five-year deal that will keep him at the Suns until the end of the 2027 AFL season.

The 25-year-old enjoyed a breakout season with the club, winning the Suns’ Club Champion award while also earning selection into the All Australian team.

Miller also set an AFL record this season for most consecutive games with 30-plus disposals, with 16.

“I’m super grateful and humbled to be extending my contract for another five years,” Miller said in a club statement.

“I think it’s a really exciting time to be a part of this club and what we’re going to do going forward, so I was absolutely over the moon to extend.

“To see success at this club, I think it’s really important that I’m here for that and I get to be a part of that, it will be pretty special.”

The signing is a major relief for the club, with the Suns yesterday losing midfielder Greenwood due to a botched tactical draft ploy.

The Suns delisted Greenwood, despite the fact he still had a live contract with them. It was only meant to be a temporary measure so the club had enough list spots available under the rules ahead of the AFL draft.

But in the space of 48 hours, Greenwood was approached by North Melbourne and was enticed to sign a two-year deal with the Kangaroos as a delisted free agent.

AFL legend Garry Lyon labelled the botched draft ploy as “an embarrassment”.
