Sunday Brunch’s Simon Rimmer heartbroken as he announces death of his ‘hero’
Taking to Twitter, where earlier this month he shared a heartwarming snap wishing his dad a Happy Father’s Day, the 60-year-old penned to his 270,000 followers: “It’s with great sadness that I have to announce the death of my hero, my dad Peter.”
Simon was instantly inundated with condolences and heartfelt messages of support from fans, friends and colleagues alike.
One follower shared: “So sorry for your loss Simon. It’s devastating losing a parent x” as another sympathised: “Condolences to you and your family, Simon. I lost my father 25 years ago and still miss him terribly!”
A third penned: “So very sorry Simon, I have really enjoyed seeing the love between you and your dad on your photos with him over the years. You were fortunate to love each other so.”
Former Geordie Shore star Vicky Pattison also shared her condolences writing: “So sorry for your loss Simon… sending you and your family loads of love x”
While it has not yet been revealed what Peter’s cause of death was, the celebrity chef previously reflected on the most heartwrenching moment of his childhood when his dad was diagnosed with cancer.
Speaking in 2020 as he joined a fundraiser for Cancer Research UK, the Channel 4 star revealed that he could still “vividly remember” when he was told his father’s diagnosis that came with a “very little chance of survival”.
He candidly shared: “I was only nine years old and it hit me like a ton of bricks.”
That same year, to mark Peter’s birthday, Simon gushed on Instagram: “My amazing dad Pete is 87 today. 2 heart ops, 2 lots of cancer.
“He’s a fighter. He’s the smartest most gentle human being. Love you dad see you later xx.”
