Here’s a property any aspiring spy would lust over.

Not just because it’s a rather nice loft-style apartment, but thanks to its location in a former MI5 office.

The apartment, which is on sale for £950,000, is part of a regeneration project by developer Javelin Block, designed to bring an old, disused building back to life while honouring its history.

The result is this fancy flat, complete with a cinema room and a private garage, which sits in Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.

The building was originally a block of workshops before the security agency took it over and used it as an office.

Then, in 2011, it was converted into four flats, each with exposed brickwork, oak floorboards, and concrete ceilings – so very cool industrial vibes.

Now, the first-floor flat is on the market. Shall we take a look inside?

There’s 3,280 sq ft of interior space, with a massive 60ft long open-plan kitchen and living area, two double bedrooms (both with en suite bathrooms), and that cinema room we mentioned earlier.

There’s private lift access – because any wannabe secret agent wouldn’t bother schlepping up the stairs – and a private garage, accessed by street level.

All of this is on Water Street, around a 15-minute walk from the city centre.

Philip Jackson, from Maguire Jackson, who are selling the property, said: ‘This is one of only four apartments in that building, which has been converted by Javelin Block, and they are quite rare.

‘There’s a pressure for developers to create smaller apartments but Javelin took advantage of the size of this building and created these large single-floor apartments which are really rather smart and very stylish.

‘They have quite a brand following so I would expect the buyer to be someone who is looking specifically for a Javelin Block apartment or someone coming into town wanting something a bit special.

‘It’s the first time it’s been on the market since it was converted.

‘These Viceroy House units are without doubt some of the most authentic loft apartments in the city. They’re probably the best lofts outside of Shoreditch and Clerkenwell.

‘We do not expect this particular one to stay on the market long. For the right individual it presents an almost New York style in the very heart of Birmingham’s Jewellery Quarter.’
