Strictly’s Rhys Stephenson collapses in training after ‘burning the heels off his socks’

CBBC presenter Rhys Stephenson posted a picture of himself lying on the dance studio floor following rehearsals for a demanding Charleston routine. The star, 28, has been learning the fast-paced 1920s dance with Strictly Come Dancing professional partner Nancy Xu, 30.

Rhys shared a photo of himself starfished on the floor with his 22,400 Instagram followers.

In the picture, the children’s TV presenter looks wide-eyed, while lying next to a pair of his shoes.

The star also notably has multiple holes in both of his socks.

“Do the Charleston they said, it’ll be fun, they said, you definitely won’t burn the heels off your socks they said,” Rhys wrote under the picture with a laughing emoji.

Rhys’ followers were quick to offer the exhausted celeb some words of encouragement under the post.

“You can do it Rhys. Legendary CBBC member,” wrote Instagram user @greendin055.

“Go on Rhys you can do it my 10 yo x 7 yo daughters adore you xx,” added @luannemclean. (sic)

The star even got a compliment on his headwear, with @alishea__ saying: “You should definitely make the hat part of your regular attire.”

Yesterday, Rhys’ dance partner Nancy posted videos of them both to her Instagram Story, where the two bantered back and forth after the star admitted he felt like Nancy was moments from “telling him off”.

The pair are rehearsing to do the Charleston this Saturday to the song The Charleston by Bob Wilson and his Varsity Rhythm Boys.

In the video, Rhys admitted that he wasn’t sure if he’d “done something wrong” and cheekily asked Nancy if she was going to “tell him off”.

Nancy went on to question Rhys about why he was “looking at her like that”, insisting that her face is “adorable”, to which her partner jokingly replied that she looked “stern” and “a little scary”.

When Nancy called Rhys by his full name he said: “Don’t use my full government name! It makes me feel like I’m in trouble,” to which Nancy calmly responded, “You are”.

The dancing couple appear to be getting on like a house on fire and last week they impressed the judges enough to land in fourth place on the leaderboard.

On Saturday, they performed a show-stopping quickstep to What A Man Gotta Do by Jonas Brothers, earning a two nines from the judges and an overall score of 34.

Olympic swimmer Adam Peaty and Katya Jones received the lowest score from the judges on Saturday night, ending up with just 27 points overall for their Jive.

The other couple who the public placed in the dance off were newbie Strictly professional Nikita Kuzmin and Tilly Ramsay, the daughter of famous TV chef Gordon Ramsay.

Tilly and Nikita finished third from the bottom of the leaderboard with 31 points for their Tango to Kings & Queens by Ava Max, which put them at serious risk of landing in the bottom two.

In the end, three out of four of the judges chose to save Tilly and Nikita, with judge Shirley proving to be the only dissenting voice who would have chosen to save Adam.

Strictly returns for Musicals Week on Saturday at 6:40pm on BBC One.
