Amy Dowden is leaning on her nearest and dearest following her breast cancer diagnosis.

The Strictly Come Dancing professional announced earlier this week that she had cancer at the age of 32.

Writing to her Instagram followers, Amy said: ‘Hey all, I’ve got some news which isn’t easy to share.

‘I’ve recently been diagnosed with breast cancer but I’m determined to get back on that dance floor before you know it.’

What followed was an outpouring of love from Strictly stars past and present, with the likes of Katya Jones, Dianne Buswell, Johannes Radebe, and more sending their well wishes.

Now, in her first post since announcing her news, Amy has shared a series of smiley snaps, showing that she’s keen to keep her spirits high.

The Welsh ballroom pro beamed as she cradled her adorable nephew during his first birthday celebrations.

She also shared pictures of him playing in the garden.

‘Our darling nephew Jacob is 1!’, Amy wrote in the caption.

‘Got him his first set of wheels ????????. But he’s more impressed with soaking his outfit with his outdoor rain forest water table!’, she joked, after buying him a car for his birthday.

‘We love you Jacob! Happy first birthday party darling ????????????????????????????????’

In the comments, former Strictly contestant Sara Davies wrote: ‘Omg he’s looking so grown up!!! Where has that year gone!?!’

Jowita Przystał, Nancy Xu, and Carlos Gu also all commented love heart emoji.

Sharing the post to her Instagram Story, Amy later said the family day was ‘exactly what we need right now’.

She also reposted a video of Team GB rowing champ Erin Kennedy talking about her own experience with cancer, as Amy hailed her an ‘inspiration’.

Amy has been surrounded by support since she revealed her diagnosis.

Former Strictly Partner Tom Fletcher and his wife Giovanna actually got ‘straight in the car’ to be with her when they found out.

‘Tom and Giovanna got straight in the car and came to see me when I told them the news, and we went for a walk,’ recalled Amy to Hello!

Amy, who has grade 3 breast cancer, added: ‘Giovanna’s encouragement has been central to my decision to share my story in the hopes of helping others.’

Author Giovanni was also pivotal in the discovery, as Amy began checking her breast for lumps after doing the CoppaTrek! – a 100km walk led by her friend to raise money for breast cancer charities.

‘CoppaFeel! has now potentially saved my life, because I don’t know how long this lump could have been there before I would have noticed and done something about it,’ she explained.

Amy now hopes that sharing her story will help others.
