Strictly’s Amy Dowden feeling ‘very sore’ as she speaks out after cancer surgery

Strictly Come Dancing star Amy Dowden, 32, has revealed her breast cancer surgery “went well,” but that she is feeling “very sore”.

However, the Welsh professional dancer, who announced her grade 3 breast cancer diagnosis last month, is determined to focus on the positives.

She wrote on her Instagram Stories this morning: “Surgery went well.

“Big thanks to my two surgeons and nurses who have been so utterly amazing and looking after me.

“Very sore but focusing on the positives they said the surgery went well!

“Thanks for all the support and messages,” she concluded.

The health update comes after Amy shared a photo from her hospital bed on Wednesday evening.

In the snap, Amy could be seen giving the thumbs up to the camera as she lay in bed dressed in a hospital gown.

She captioned the post: “Step one to beating cancer! Rrrrrrready for this fight and more determined than ever to get back on the dance floor.

She added the hashtags: “#breastcanceryoung #checkyourchest #checkyourlemons #letsdothis #breastcancerawareness.”

The Strictly star found a lump in her breast just one day before going on her honeymoon with husband Ben Jones.

She was then diagnosed with stage three breast cancer by doctors.

Amy’s BBC co-stars have been supporting her throughout her health battle, with Strictly pro Gorka Marquez telling her “you got this,” while former It Takes Two host Zoe Ball sent “huge love and strength to you beautiful Amy.”

Amy noticed the lump after taking part in a charity trek for CoppaFeel! last June, as the campaign highlighted the importance of regularly checking your breasts.

The Strictly pro then spotted the lump had grown in size and made an appointment with her GP straight away.

Following Amy’s health news, Strictly bosses confirmed they wouldn’t be replacing the dancer on the forthcoming 2023 season of the BBC show.

They said: “We will not be recasting for another professional dancer for 2023.”
