Strictly’s Adam Peaty blasts critics who ‘tried to bring him down’ after exit

Adam Peaty has broken his silence after his exit from Strictly Come Dancing.

There was a shock on Sunday night as Adam and his professional partner Katya Jones found themselves in the bottom two with Tilly Ramsay and Nikita Kuzmin.

They both had to perform their routines again – a jive to Little Bitty Pretty One by Frankie Lymon & The Teenagers, and a tango to Kings & Queens by Ava Max – for the judges in a bid to impress and remain in the competition.

But it was sadly Adam, who spent his second week in the dance-off, who was chosen to leave by judges Craig Revel Horwood, Motsi Mabuse and Anton Du Beke all chose to save Tilly and Nikita.

Head judge Shirley Ballas said she would have decided to save Adam and Katya.

And there were tears as the exiting pair chatted to Tess Daly before their final dance.

Katya told her celebrity partner: “I was not ready to be in this position today. But, looking back, this is you, you have done all of this.

“None of us expected you to come from the Olympics.

“After the dance-off, I looked at him and he had tears in his eyes.

“Someone who’s an absolute unbeatable machine, that we see defending his titles for seven years non-stop, being emotional about dancing.

“I really think you deserve a lot more appreciation for what you’ve done and I was not ready for this.”

But the Olympic champion has now taken to social media where he blasted critics who “tried to bring us down”.

Adam and Katya hit the headlines earlier in the series after a perceived “near kiss” on the dancefloor which led to his girlfriend, and mother of his baby son, to speak out.

Posting on Instagram, Adam said: “What an experience @bbcstrictly has been.

Adam and Katya are the sixth couple to exit the competition

“I’m so grateful for my time on this show, from the highs of performing in front of millions and the extreme challenge of learning a new routine within 3 days every week, it’s been incredible.

“I didn’t know how much it meant to me until I got a bit emotional after my dance off; however, I don’t think it was the dancing that pushed me over the edge, but the two years of the constant challenge with myself combined with the energy to win the Olympics and becoming a father at the same time.

“My emotions are one of my strongest attributes and I’m not ashamed to show that I’m human.”

Adam went on to say it was “crazy” as he thought he was “ok,” but he admitted “I am not.”

“We all have to wear a piece of armour to get the job done and it wasn’t until this week that I knew I could let it go. I’m still healing from the trials and tribulations that elite sporting athletes go through but with that I’m also adapting and learning from life.”

He then paid tribute to his dance partner who has helped him through the last seven weeks.

“Thank you Katya for being there every single day, you are incredible. I don’t have enough positive words for you and what an amazing person and dancer you are.

“Thank you to everyone behind the scenes, you are brilliant. I’m so grateful for everyone who has made this experience so amazing.

“@tillyramsay you were incredible and I’m so glad you get to show how much of an amazing dancer you are again next week!”

But Adam then responded to those who weren’t as kind.

“For the people who tried to bring us down throughout the show, please challenge yourself to be better. The world needs much more positivity and truth.

“Time to get some rest (although my book launches this week!!!) I’ll come back the strongest version of the real me and I can’t wait to start racing again!”

He ended the post: “A very special mention to all of the band, wardrobe, hair, makeup, set builders, camera crew and every who makes this show what it is, you are just brilliant.”
