Strictly Come Dancing star Katya Jones has called out ‘toxic lies’ about her while claiming she has been being ‘bashed’ for ‘weeks’, assuring fans that she has no intention of quitting the BBC series.

Last Sunday, Katya and Olympic gold medallist Adam Peaty became the latest couple to be eliminated from Strictly 2021.

Following their elimination, despite Adam’s mum angrily calling it a ‘total fix’, the BBC stated that Adam and Katya were in ‘good spirits’ after the emotional results show.

In a new Instagram post, Katya, 32, said that she has felt ‘forced into publicly defending myself after weeks of being bashed’.

The dancer criticised ‘lies’ being printed about it ‘with no regard for the truth’, stating: ‘There are a lot more important things going on in the world that should be making front page news.’

Katya emphasised the ‘consequences’ that ‘lies’ can have on an individual, although she added that she has been able to cope in light of them.

‘Good job I’m a tough cookie because these toxic lies are a lot for one person to take and can have consequences,’ she wrote.

‘I am a professional dancer on a TV show doing my job which I care passionately about. I’m not quitting, I’ve not had a tantrum. I love the show and I shall keep dancing. Lots of love.’

Katya has received plenty of support in the comments underneath her post, with fellow Strictly pro Nancy Xu writing: ‘All my love girl.’

‘Sending you love,’ wrote Great British Bake Off star John Whaite, while a fan said: ‘Chin up chick. You’re an incredibly talented professional. They only come for you because how dare a woman be successful.’

Katya has been on Strictly since 2016, joining for the 14th series of the show.

In her first year, Katya was partnered with Ed Balls, before winning with Joe McFadden the following season.

In the 16th series, she was coupled up with Seann Walsh, followed by Mike Bushell and then last year, she became part of the first ever same-sex couple on the programme with Nicola Adams.

Strictly Come Dancing returns tonight at 6.40pm on BBC One.
