Strictly Come Dancing head judge Shirley Ballas has shared a new update on her health, explaining that she has suffered some ‘dark and lonely’ moments.

The 61-year-old sparked concern when viewers spotted ‘lumps’ in her arms during a recent episode.

The dancer has now explained that she is being sent for scans on all her organs, after tests revealed abnormally high testosterone levels.

In an interview with The Sun on Sunday, Shirley said: ‘My NHS doctor is very good, so the fact that she is concerned makes me concerned – and she was mortified by my results.

‘She said I have the highest testosterone levels she’s ever seen in a woman, and testosterone can wreak havoc on the female organs. So she’s requested an urgent scan of all of my organs at King’s College, London.

‘When the lights go down, and it’s “Where is that off button?” I do feel a little bit dark and lonely, and I do tend to worry.’

It comes after the ballroom pro thanked viewers of the BBC One show for helping her discover the ‘concerning’ symptoms through their TV screens.

Earlier this month, the BBC One star booked a doctor’s appointment after several viewers reached out when they spotted a lump under her arm while watching the show.

The star has since been updating her fans regularly on her health, explaining that she was going to the hospital for tests, and later found that her hormone levels are ‘all over the place’.

In a short clip on Instagram, she opened up about the stage she is currently at with medical check-ups.

‘Since several of you thought they saw a lump under my arm and I went to get that checked, then the doctor said that she thought my levels were not right, my hormone levels weren’t right,’ she said.

Shirley’s mum Audrey was diagnosed with colon cancer in 2019, as well as her grandmother and aunt.

The Strictly results show airs on Sunday at 7.15pm on BBC One.
