Strevens: Lovely scenes after Dagenham & Redbridge win at Barnet

Inih Effiong put the visitors ahead early in the second half at The Hive, with Sydney Ibie sealing the points late on with his first professional goal.

And Strevens was delighted to see the connection between the players and supporters after the final whistle, at the end of another rollercoaster campaign at the Victoria Road club.

“I’m really pleased for them, there was a real good atmosphere in the dressing room and lovely to see those scenes at the end with the fans,” he told the club website.

“The connection and support they’ve given today, that’s what we want to try and build and have that every home game, as many away games as we can.

“I know it’s a local one today but that support was amazing. Lovely to stand there and see that and the boys smiles on their faces and the fans with smiles on their faces.

“A pleasing day for everyone.”

Barnet boss Dean Brennan made a host of changes ahead of his side’s play-off against Boreham Wood on Tuesday, but Strevens did not want that to detract for his side’s success.

“They clearly made a lot of changes because they’ve got a massive game on Tuesday, but we had four, five, six players out as well,” he added.

“It was good that people come in and had opportunities, Ryley Scott had his first start and I thought he did really well in central midfield.

“First time I’ve moved [David ]Longe-King back to centre-half and he did great.

“George [Saunders] on the right hand side, then Birdy [Jay Bird] and big Syd come on with Inih as well.

“There were good moments for us to see some players as well, so although they changed things up we had quite a few changes as well.

“All in all, we won 2-0 away from home, a clean sheet and nice to get a couple of goals as well.”

Ryley Scott impressed on his first start after recovering from injury, while substitute Ibie finished off his chance with confidence.

And Strevens was keen to praise both youngsters, adding: “Ryley did great. He hasn’t been able to train much because when I came in he’d hurt his back and was missing.

“It was amazing for him, to give him that opportunity, and he deserved it. He probably played longer than I wanted him to and expected him to do.

“But he did great before he finally got to the point where he was cramping, but it was a nice moment for him as well. He deserved it.

“It was amazing moment for Syd, something he’ll remember. I said that to him and the boys were giving him a massive clap because it’s something you’re always going to remember.

“I was a bit critical of our forwards at half-time because I felt we were two-v-two with their defenders and should’ve been scoring more goals in the first half. We had some good opportunities.

“Good for Inih, he came out and responded in the way he wants to and scored, so if that’s how I’ve got to be with him to get those moments I will.

“We thought Syd coming on, he ended up going left because Ryley was struggling, but we thought he’d cause them problems going in behind and he took it lovely as well.”
