Stranger Things universe expanding as creators confirm animated Netflix series
If you’re a Stranger Things fan and you’re gutted about the show ending, never fear!
Yep, you’ll still be able to get your fix, as the much-loved Netflix show is getting its own animated series.
While Stranger Things as we know it will conclude after season 5, the universe will expand once more, as the streaming giant has green-lit an untitled animated series with Flying Bark Productions and Eric Robles as executive producer.
With the news confirmed by Deadline, Matt and Ross Duffer (aka The Duffer Brothers) who created the series shared their excitement.
‘We’ve always dreamed of an animated Stranger Things in the vein of the Saturday morning cartoons that we grew up loving, and to see this dream realised has been absolutely thrilling,’ they said in a statement.
Offering a hint of what’s to come, the duo added: ‘We couldn’t be more blown away by what Eric Robles and his team have come up with.
‘The scripts and artwork are incredible, and we can’t wait to share more with you!’
‘The adventure continues,’ they teased.
Stranger Things launched in 2016, starring Winona Ryder, David Harbour, Finn Wolfhard, Millie Bobby Brown, Gaten Matarazzo, Caleb McLaughlin, Natalia Dyer, Charlie Heaton, and Noah Schnapp.
Catapulting several young stars to global fame, the series quickly became a phenomenon, following residents of the fictional town of Hawkins, Indiana, as they experience paranormal events and an alternate dimension known as the Upside Down.
One cast member who’s gone on to become a real A-lister is Millie, with the now 19-year-old having starred in projects such as Enola Holmes and about to release her debut novel.
However, when it comes to Stranger Things, she recently revealed that she’s ready to move on after the fifth and final installment.
Despite The Duffer Brothers’ hopes of numerous spin-offs, Millie has said she’s ready to hang up Eleven/Jane Hopper’s shoes, and will reportedly not be involved in any future projects.
In fact, according to The Sun, the British actress has already turned down £10million to star in a Stranger Things movie, meaning we probably won’t be hearing her voice in the animations.
A source said: ‘There are so many directions it could go. Nothing is off the table.
‘They think it would translate to a stage show for Broadway and the West End just like Harry Potter and the Cursed Child.
‘Another spin-off series following some of the show’s main characters is also being worked up.’
Speaking back in March, Millie admitted that she was ‘definitely ready to wrap up’ Stranger Things in an interview with Seventeen.
She explained: ‘I feel like there’s a lot of the story that’s been told now, and we know of it, it’s been in our lives for a very long time.
‘But I’m very ready to say goodbye to this chapter of my life and open new ones up.’
