‘Straight from the Meghan and Harry playbook’ Piers Morgan hits out at Adele’s ‘hypocrisy’

Adele, 32, is well known for her songs on heartbreak, however, Piers Morgan, 56, has said the singer has now gone a step too far as she opened up on the breakdown of her marriage after previously saying she would not make any “further comment” on the situation. The Rolling In The Deep hitmaker sat down with Oprah Winfrey for an interview as part of the marketing campaign for her latest album, 30, as she discussed the aftermath of her divorce from charity chief Simon Konecki, in the exact same spot Meghan Markle and Prince Harry shared their upset over the Royal Family back in March.

When Simon and Adele first split up, the singer’s spokesman announced: “Adele and her partner have separated. They are committed to raising their son together lovingly. As always they ask for privacy. There will be no further comment.”

However, Piers observed that Adele has continued to open up despite this statement, which was given three years ago.

He said: “Turns out there was going to be a lot of ‘further comment’ about the marriage, in fact, a whole album full of it.

“And I can just imagine the wails of outrage that would have burst from that fabulous set of pipes if anyone in the media had trashed her husband as a complacent, lazy and uncaring man,” he added in his Daily Mail column.

The former Good Morning Britain host claimed Adele’s attitude is displaying signs of hypocrisy, as he compared her with former senior royals Meghan and Harry.

He continued in his Daily Mail column: “Of course, all this hypocrisy is par for the course with today’s over-sharing celebrities who love to reveal every prurient detail of their lives for commercial gain, whilst simultaneously demanding ‘privacy.’

“In fact, Adele’s behaviour is straight from the Meghan and Harry playbook, right down to invading her own privacy to America’s foremost TV therapist, Oprah Winfrey.”

Sitting in the same garden where Oprah interviewed the Duke and Duchess of Sussex in March after the couple effectively quit the Royal Family, the talk-show host quizzed Adele over some of her “dark” lyrics.

“The process of arriving for yourself every single day, turning up for yourself every single day. And still running a home, running a business so many people know what I’m talking about and I feel like that as well, I juggled those things as well.

“And I felt like not doing it anymore. It made my feet hurt, walking through all that concrete.”

“I’ve been obsessed with a nuclear family my whole life because I never came from one,” said the singer, whose father left home when she was just two-years-old.

“From a very young age [I] promised myself that, when I had kids, we’d stay together. And I tried for a really, really long time.”

Adele said she first realised her marriage was crumbling when she took a personality test in a glossy magazine.

One of the questions asked, “What’s something that no-one would ever know about you?”, and she blurted out to her friends: “I’m really not happy. I’m not living, I’m just plodding along.”

“They all gasped,” she recalled. “From there, I was like ‘What am I doing? What am I doing it for?'”

Adele was married to Simon for eight years and the couple share son Angelo, nine.
