Storm sweating on star after ‘terrible’ injury scare
The Melbourne Storm are sweating on Justin Olam after the powerhouse centre left the field during a trial on Sunday clutching at his right arm.
The Storm said in a statement the 29-year-old had suffered a suspected fractured arm and would undergo scans.
The Raiders are also waiting nervously for scans after rising fullback Xavier Savage suffered a jaw injury in a trial against the Bulldogs on Sunday.

Olam, named in the centres in the 2021 Dally M team of the year, grabbed his right arm after tackling Roosters second-rower Siua Wong in Geelong, before leaving the field while using his jersey as a sling.
“The Storm can’t have him injured at this time of the year,” Fox League commentator Shane Flanagan said of Olam, who was already playing with a strapped right arm.
“Justin Olam … he is one tough cookie, as well,” Flanagan added.
“He wouldn’t be going off the field if it wasn’t a major injury.
“So, not a great start for him and not a great start for the Melbourne Storm.
“Hopefully it’s not as bad as it looks.”
Flanagan said it was a “terrible sign” for Melbourne.
The injury scare follows a horrid 2022 campaign for Melbourne’s backline, which was impacted by setbacks to Ryan Papenhuyzen, Marion Seve, Xavier Coates and George Jennings.
The Roosters defeated the Storm 32-24 in Sunday’s trial.
The second round of the pre-season challenge will see the Roosters meet the Sea Eagles in Gosford on Friday, before the Storm face the Warriors in Christchurch on Sunday.
