Steven Gerrard would ‘love to turn over’ Manchester United

Steven Gerrard will be desperate to beat Manchester United according to one of his former teammates.

Dominic Matteo, who played with Gerrard at Liverpool, claims that the now Villa manager will not be short of motivation when the two sides meet in the FA Cup on Monday.

Speaking on LUTV’s The Warm Up, Matteo said: “Because I know him, Stevie G will be looking at that game saying ‘I’d love to turn these over.’

“That’s what he did. You’ve seen his celebrations against Man United, they were always special.

“So that’s the one game to watch out for and they might nick that Villa, maybe 5-0.”

Aston Villa have not been on the best run of form since returning to competitive action following a Covid break having lost to Chelsea and Brentford in their last two matches.

Criticism of Ralf Rangnick has been high over the course of the last week following his first defeat in charge of United at the hands of Wolves.

The winner of Monday’s fixture, which will be decided via extra time and penalties if necessary, will progress to the fourth round of the FA Cup.

Manchester United vs Aston Villa will kick off at 7.55pm on Monday, January 10.
