Stay in a Maldives-style overwater bungalow in the UK that won’t break the bank

IF you fancy staying in an overwater bungalow without a trip to the Maldives, thankfully you can get a similar experience in the UK.

Brit holidaymakers will be happy to find out that an overwater villa exists on a lake in Cornwall.

Part of Pengelly Retreat, the Boat House is a luxury wooden cabin that overlooks a lake.

The Boat House, which is open all year round, has a kitchen and living area and double bedroom with an ensuite shower.

Other features include a welcome pack of food, a log burner and underfloor heating.

As well as standard hotel amenities, there’s also a home cinema projector for a cosy night in.

On the sundeck there’s an outdoor bath tub, a rowing boat, and a set of steps with direct access into the lake.

The Boat House sleeps two adults and prices start from £64 per night per person.

But guests will need to book a three-night stay as a minimum.

Meanwhile just three hours from the UK you can find a sandy beach with overwater villas that cost less than a tenner.

Travellers have now discovered Pema E Thatë, a private beach found on the Albanian Riviera with amazing blue waters.

Despite Albania not being a popular holiday destination with Brits, the Riviera has won fans in recent months due to it’s beautiful beaches and short flights.

Flights are quicker than the Canaries as it takes just three hours to get to Ksamil from the UK with Wizz Air.

Direct flights with Wizz Air are cheap, starting from just £55 although British Airways also operates to the region.

Not only that but it’s cheap when you are there – a glass of wine will set you back £1.70 and pints cost just £1.10.

On the Pema E Thatë beach are huts you can rent for the day for as little as 1,000 LEK (£7.68).

Each hut has two pillows, two mats and a net hammock overlooking the water, just like the overwater villas in the Maldives.

There is even a restaurant, bar, promenade and sandy beach with sunloungers.

Holidaymakers can also book overwater villas in Egypt.
