BHUBANESWAR: The Odisha government has taken a decision to strengthen help desks at state-run medical colleges and hospitals by designating one senior nursing officer as Swasthya Sanjojak. It will help in disseminating updated information on health conditions and treatment of the indoor patients to their respective attendants or family members.
Health secretary Shalini Pandit in her letter to superintendents of all government medical college and hospitals, superintendents of VIMSAR Burla and Acharya Harihar Post Graduate Institute of Cancer (AHPGIC), Cuttack, said they need to take necessary steps for strengthening or setting up of help desks at the medical college and hospitals.
During the Covid time, the government found that the existing system of passing updated information on health conditions of the indoor patients to their family members was not sufficient. “Such information would be quite helpful for the attendants/relatives of the patients admitted in intensive care units (ICU) and high dependency units (HDU), where access of the attendants is restricted,” said a health department official.
Keeping this situation in mind, the government has decided to strengthen the help desk already functioning/set up help desks in each government medical colleges and hospitals (MCHs) for better dissemination of the updated information regarding the indoor patients to their attendants.
Pandit in the letter said a senior nursing of the government MCH having the suitable attitude and aptitude may be nominated by the superintendent of the MCH as the ‘Swasthya Sanjojak’, whose duty will be to act as a link between the hospital and patient’s family/attendant. The Swasthya Sanjojak (SS) may be deployed from the existing manpower, said the secretary.
This year, two new government medical colleges have come up at Sundargarh and Keonjhar. With this, the state has 10 government MCHs. Besides, it has AHPGIC at Cuttack.
