Star’s retirement U-turn after vaping controversy

Controversial former Titans captain Kevin Proctor has decided against retiring and has signed a two-year deal with English club Wakefield.

The 33-year-old’s career looked all but over when he was sacked by the Gold Coast in July.

But when Wakefield came up with a lucrative deal, the veteran of 22 Tests and former Melbourne Storm premiership-winner decided to take up the challenge.

Proctor was sent packing by the Titans in bizarre circumstances after posting a video of himself on social media vaping in a toilet cubicle inside the club’s sheds at halftime in a match against the Bulldogs.

The post was captioned “Not the halftime vape,” and sent Instagram into meltdown before Proctor eventually removed it.

But it was too late for the Titans, who fined Proctor $15,000 before terminating his contract.

“His actions were in breach of both NRL and stadium regulations,” Gold Coast said in a statement.

Kiwi-born Proctor played nearly 300 games in the NRL for the Storm and Titans.
