Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back’s Co-Writer Is Making a Six-Part Documentary About George Lucas

Lawrence Kasdan, the co-writer on both Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back and Return of the Jedi, is directing a new six-part docuseries on George Lucas and ILM (Industrial Light & Magic).

As reported by Collider, composer James Newton Howard revealed on Score: The Podcast that he recently finished scoring this new documentary and that he also may be involved in the upcoming sequel to Lucasfilm’s Willow that is headed to Disney+. The film is being executive produced by Lawrence’s son Jonathan.

Lucas founded ILM in 1975 to help him create his vision of Star Wars, and the company would continue on to help create films from such franchises as Indiana Jones, Back to the Future, Terminator, Harry Potter, and some in the MCU.

ILM and its parent company Lucasfilm were acquired by Disney in 2012, and while this docuseries does not have a release date or platform as of yet, it very well may find its way to Disney+.

Star Wars: The Empire Strikes Back was Kasdan’s first official writing credits, and he would stay in that galaxy far, far away to help writer Return of the Jedi, The Force Awakens, Solo, and the Shadows of the Empire video game.

He also worked with Lucas on Indiana Jones and the Raiders of the Lost Ark and wrote and directed Body Heat.
