Star Wars Outlaws Lets You Meet Jabba the Hutt, Visit Eis Mosley Cantina

Ubisoft Massive and Lucasfilm starred in a San Diego Comic-Con 2023 panel entirely dedicated to the upcoming open world game Star Wars Outlaws.

During the panel, Creative Director Julian Gerighty revealed that players will be able to meet (and get missions from or betray) the infamous crimelord Jabba the Hutt and visit the famed Eis Mosley cantina. After the panel, StarWars.com talked to Gerighty about these famous locations and characters.

Fans are going to have to play the game to see who might show up as a part of Kay’s story. I think Jabba’s the most obvious that we’ve featured.

We also wanted an iconic location, and that was, for me, Tatooine. It was a big challenge because there’s so many things that exist on Tatooine that it’s become a puzzle to put things together. But we went back to the source. We went to some of the DK visual guides, and we started building, “Okay, what are the most important parts and what’s gonna make the most fun for the player to explore?” So Mos Eisley is a big part of it, but there’s also a lot of the dunes, the canyons, and things that you really expect. You know, the greatest hits of Tatooine that we try and put together.

We talked about the sort of singular nature of open worlds to allow the player to have agency on their experience. But there’s another part of it that I love and that’s very Ubisoft in a way, which is virtual tourism. And the virtual tourism in a place like Tatooine is great, because I’ve always wondered how far the moisture farms were from Mos Eisley. I’ve always wondered how the cantina was constructed. So all of these things, we’re trying to do justice to the source material by really recreating it as authentically as possible, with the help of Lucasfilm Games.

Ubisoft Massive also revealed that both Jabba the Hutt and Nix (Kay’s loyal companion) will be voiced by Dee Bradley Baker, who has an incredibly long history of voicing Star Wars characters in games like DICE’s Star Wars Battlefront (where he played Bossk) and in countless animated shows and films.

Last but not least, Ubisoft shared a new behind-the-scenes video that also features Humberly González, the actress behind protagonist Kay.

The stakes are definitely very high for Kay’s Journey through the underworld, but she learns, she adapts, she sneaks around, and she finds herself in very important spaces with very powerful people. Players are going to love Star Wars Outlaws. It’s going to be exciting. It’s very adventurous and that’s what makes it Star Wars, so I’m very excited to  share that.

Star Wars Outlaws was first unveiled during last month’s Xbox Games Showcase, with the gameplay trailer debuting a few days later at Ubisoft Forward. Since then, Ubisoft opened up on the game’s mechanics and size (each planet will be as big as two or three zones from Assassin’s Creed Odyssey).

Powered by Snowdrop engine, Star Wars Outlaws is targeting a 2024 launch on PC, PlayStation 5, and Xbox Series S|X.
