Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake Is Still in Development at Embracer Group

Embracer Group recently published the year-end report for Fiscal Year 2022-23. It included the title Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic’s remake in its list of “announced PC/Console releases as of May 24, 2023.” It also mentioned PC and PS5 as the only platforms for the game, along with general details of the publishing label, IP owner and main developer.

The developmental trouble that the KOTOR Remake has seen

The Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake was first revealed to much anticipation in a PlayStation 5 Showcase back in 2021. Back then it was being developed by Embracer Group’s Texas-based studio Aspyr. However, eventually, reports informed that Lucasfilm and Sony were unimpressed with the state of matters of development of the project. This ultimately ended up with the game being put on hold indefinitely, along with the firing of design director Brad Prince and art director Jason Minor.

In August 2022, it was announced that the development of the game was handed over to Saber Interactive from Aspyr Media, which is another subsidiary of the Embracer Group. Not much has been heard of the game since. However, the new year-end report now mentions that the game is being developed in an internal studio, which could likely mean Saber Interactive. Regardless, this indicates that Star Wars: Knights of the Old Republic Remake is not a dead project after all.
